Welcome to the State Health Plan
The State Health Plan offers health benefits to all eligible teachers, state employees, retirees and other individuals identified in the North Carolina General Statutes. The Plan's mission is to provide quality health care products and services for the health and well-being of our members.
The Plan offers two Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans. PPO plans offer the freedom of choice among in-network providers, lower out-of-pocket costs (copay only for most in-network office visits) and a strong emphasis on preventive health.
PPO Basic 70/30 Plan
This plan has higher copays, coinsurance and deductibles in exchange for reduced premiums when you choose coverage for more than just yourself.
PPO Standard 80/20 Plan
The coverage level is higher than the coverage level of the Basic plan.
Express Scripts Medicare™ Prescription Drug Plan
This booklet contains detailed information for Medicare-eligible members who have the Express Scripts Medicare™ Prescription Drug Plan for their drug coverage. Medicare-eligible members who have the Traditional Pharmacy Plan will find their coverage information in the PPO Basic and PPO Standard benefit booklets.
By choosing one of the PPO plans, you have access to Member Services, a protected online resource for help in maximizing your benefits and to NC HealthSmart, a protected online resource for help in managing your health.
