Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC), the State Health Plan’s Third Party Administrator, has launched a significant redesign and improvement of several online member transparency tools, making it even easier for your employees to find the care they need.
These transparency tools are part of our State Health Plan initiative to enhance the tools you use to get the most out of your health benefit at the lowest cost. We call that being a State Health Plan Watchdog!
A State Health Plan Watchdog is a better, more educated consumer who uses the tools available to make smarter, more informed decisions about health care. Help your employees become Watchdogs by encouraging them to review and verify that they’re being billed correctly for health care services. In that way, we can all help keep health costs lower and the State Health Plan financially healthy. One easy step for employees is to log into the Blue Connect portal. Here’s how:
Once logged into eBenefits from the Plan website, www.shpnc.org, your employees can find Blue Cross NC’s Blue Connect member portal on the left-hand menu. From the Blue Connect dashboard, select HealthNAV or select Find Doctors/Urgent Care from the header of any page.
From the Find a Doctor or Facility page, select Find a Doctor or Facility, Find Medical Costs, or Find Urgent Care.s=
This will open the Find a Doctor home page.
Conducting a Search
From the Find a Doctor home page, member can conduct a search using the search bar. The page will provide suggested searches. Search by Name or by Specialty, or look for providers who perform certain Procedures.
Or use Explore to browse by category.
This opens search results with basic information about each provider.
Visit a provider’s profile page to find out more about a provider.
Ratings and Reviews
Members can see ratings and reviews of providers from other Blue Cross NC members on the provider’s profile page.
Cost Estimator
Search for a procedure to see cost estimates customized to your plan and benefits.
Select a provider to see a breakdown of their costs.
If a member selects a more expensive provider, they will see the Cost Assistant which outlines lower cost options.
